About the study system

Word Focus Methodology

Word Focused KJV keeps Scripture separate from its study notes. The notes are there to help readers examine words; they never replace or rewrite the Bible text.

Scripture Text

All Scripture displayed in Word Focused KJV is from the King James Version (KJV). The Word Focus system must never modernise, paraphrase, correct, shorten, expand, or otherwise alter the KJV wording. Explanations and controls are kept separate from the Scripture text.

The whole-Bible numbered text was checked against the retained aruljohn/Bible-kjv corpus. John was also compared with retained KJV data from thiagobodruk/bible, and specific edition differences were reviewed against standard KJV chapter text.

Original Languages

Where appropriate, a Word Focus entry may show the KJV word, its associated Hebrew, Aramaic, or Greek term, a transliteration, a lexical definition, its meaning in that particular verse, and a brief grammatical or lexical nuance when that genuinely helps.

Old Testament Hebrew and Aramaic forms and linguistic annotations use the ETCBC Biblical Hebrew and Aramaic Database (BHSA), 2021, with its persistent data record. New Testament Greek comparison uses the retained Stephens/Scrivener Textus Receptus text from scrollmapper/bible_databases. MorphGNT SBLGNT morphology is used only to assist form and lemma comparison; it does not replace the Received Text reading or the KJV.

Word Focus Coverage

From Genesis through Revelation, every word is eligible for Word Focus except an occurrence functioning as an article, preposition, conjunction, or pronoun. The decision is made from that word’s function in its particular verse, so an English form is not excluded merely because it can belong to one of those categories elsewhere.

Existing reviewed Hebrew and Greek entries remain the first source of information. When the retained verse records support one original-language term, the expanded entry links to it. When an English word expresses part of a wider grammatical or translation construction, the entry says so plainly instead of assigning a guessed one-to-one Hebrew or Greek word.

Lexical Definitions

Word Focus is designed to explain the meaning of the original-language word itself rather than reproduce Strong’s Concordance definitions. Strong’s numbers are not the primary Word Focus system and are not displayed in the entries.

The lexical definitions and verse notes currently in the project are independently written from the retained original-language forms, grammar, and immediate context. The original-language textual and morphological sources above are verified project sources. However, individual entries do not yet contain verified citations to a published Hebrew or Greek lexicon. No such citation is invented. Each entry now has a place for verified lexical sources to be added later without redesigning the reader.

Contextual Meaning

The lexical definition gives the word’s broader range of meaning. The shorter contextual explanation is different: it describes how that word or construction functions in the specific KJV verse being read. Context is used to narrow the sense without silently replacing the KJV wording.

First Mention

Where appropriate, First Mention identifies the earliest relevant occurrence of a meaningful word or concept in the KJV Bible. The display gives the reference and the exact KJV verse. The verse is not altered, and no exaggerated theological claim should be based merely on an occurrence being first.

Names and Places

Entries for biblical people and places may include the meaning of the name, language or origin, pronunciation, a short identification, the first KJV occurrence, relevant Bible references, and a distinction where different people share the same name. Uncertain meanings or identifications should be stated cautiously rather than presented as settled facts.

Accuracy and Corrections

Word Focused KJV is continually being checked and improved. If an entry appears to need correction, use the Report an Error option in the Word Focus panel. The report form records the passage and selected entry automatically. Until a reporting service is connected, the form clearly states that a report has not been submitted or stored.
